Boondi Raita Recipe

Boondi Raita is a classic Indian side dish that combines crispy chickpea flour pearls (boondi) with creamy yogurt and aromatic spices. It is a cooling and flavorful accompaniment to spicy Indian meals, biryanis, or parathas. This raita is quick and easy to prepare, making it a perfect addition to your meal.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup yogurt (curd)
  • 1/2 cup boondi (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/4 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black salt (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves
  • Water (as needed to adjust consistency)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Boondi: If your boondi is crisp, soak it in warm water for about 5 minutes to soften it. Then, squeeze out excess water gently and set aside.
  2. Whisk the Yogurt: In a bowl, whisk the yogurt until smooth. Add a little water if you prefer a thinner consistency.
  3. Mix the Ingredients: Add roasted cumin powder, black salt, chaat masala, regular salt, and red chili powder to the yogurt. Mix well.
  4. Add the Boondi: Fold the soaked and drained boondi into the yogurt mixture.
  5. Garnish: Sprinkle fresh coriander leaves for added flavor and freshness.
  6. Serve: Chill for a few minutes before serving or serve immediately with your favorite Indian dishes.

Tips:

  • For extra crunch, you can skip soaking the boondi and add it directly before serving.
  • Adjust the spices to your taste preferences.
  • For a richer taste, use full-fat yogurt.
