How To Make Roti?

Roti, also known as chapati, is a soft and thin Indian flatbread that is a staple in many households. Made with just a few simple ingredients, roti is nutritious, easy to make, and pairs well with various curries, vegetables, and lentils.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour (atta)
- 3/4 cup water (adjust as needed)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
- 1 teaspoon oil or ghee (optional)
- Additional flour for dusting
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt (if using).
- Gradually add water while mixing with your hands or a spoon until the dough starts to come together.
- Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and soft.
- Add a teaspoon of oil or ghee (optional) and knead again.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
2. Divide and Roll
- After resting, divide the dough into equal portions, about the size of a golf ball.
- Lightly dust a rolling surface with flour.
- Roll out each dough ball into a thin, round shape, about 6-7 inches in diameter. Try to maintain an even thickness.
3. Cook the Roti
- Heat a tawa or flat pan over medium-high heat until hot.
- Place the rolled-out roti on the hot pan and cook for about 30 seconds until you see bubbles forming.
- Flip it over and cook the other side for another 30 seconds.
- Flip again and press gently with a spatula or cloth, allowing the roti to puff up.
- Once lightly golden with brown spots, remove from the heat.
- Brush with ghee if desired and keep warm in a covered container.
Tips for Perfect Roti
- Make sure the dough is soft but not sticky.
- Resting the dough improves elasticity, making rolling easier.
- Keep the pan hot to cook rotis quickly and evenly.
